A trip to the post office!

I had to go to the post office today. I hate the post office. In fact, I try to avoid it whenever possible. I really only need stamps this time of year for cards, and I got those weeks ago. The reason for my trip? I had a handful of little packages to send out to a couple of blogging friends. Not saying what it was (and for those of you I asked for addresses, no posting about it-if you were going to-until after my Monday post!)...

Here was my pleasant surprise-it is really cheap to ship to Australia! I have never sent anything overseas other than letters to my parents in the US while I lived in Rome for a semester in college (there was no Internet or email then). That was 20 years ago-I have no idea what it cost, but that was cheap too! OK, so to send a package in a small padded envelope to Australia only cost $1.40! I was thinking at least $10! I was told it would only take 6-10 days to get there...Therese let me know if that's true!

IHATETHEPOSTOFFICETOO!!!!! I'd rather get my wisdom teeth pulled -- or deliver a baby without drugs -- okay, may be not that, but the post office ranks up there with all the things I dread in life.

You are so sweet!!!!!! :)

I went to the post today as well. Popped two boxes off to family (midwest; northwest). Done. I am officially done with the gifts. *sigh* But, I don't hate going to the post as much. I actually don't mind it, even when I go, like today, and have to queue up in a long queue. I do loathe the commissary (military grocery store), though. I went there after the post, and, it actually turned out quite nice.

Anyway, I'm surprised about the cost as well. Nice that it's not so much, but don't go on too much or the post will catch on and up their fees. ;-)

lol. I will let you know.

I use to hate the post office until I moved to the country. Now that we live in a small country town, I know which post offices have cranky workers and which ones to avoid. The one down the road from us is run by this lovely elderly lady. She is so great and is usually spot on with telling me how long things will take to get wherever they are going.

Hmmmmm. Should be interesting to see how long the packages take. The package I received from Australia tood a little over a week. Sending via US post to Italy has been taking about 9 days althought when I sent packages to some friends serving in Afghanistan and Iraq it took almost 2 weeks and that was before the holiday rush. The line at our PO was insane today. Glad I didn't need to stop.
