No sick days for Mamas

When my son, Peter, was 3 1/2 and Drew was not quite 1, we had rotovirus fly through the house. It didn't fly, actually, it lingered. For those of you who don't know, rotovirus is a nasty little stomach bug that can last a week. I had worked in our parish nursery that particular weekend, and 2 days later, Peter started with it, and Drew soon followed. I never got it, but my husband did. He was home from work for over a week. Between Andy and the boys, it was a full 3 weeks before it left our house.

The reason I bring this up is because I had a realization during that dreadful time. Mamas don't get sick days. No matter how sick we get, there simply is no rest for us. I am sitting and writing this from my bed. I have a meeting online for work in 30 minutes. Andy came home from work late this morning because he too has caught this respiratory bug that I have right now. He is resting peacefully on the couch. Michael had snuggled up with him, and I told him that I was going to work on my laptop from our bed, and that Michael would probably doze off next to him.

Ten minutes since that conversation, Andy is asleep, and I am sitting here writing this as I await my meeting. My dear, sweet Michael? He is rolling around on my bed. There truly will be no rest. I hate being sick!

It's the same in my house too....although, it took me getting cancer before they'd finally leave me alone long enough to some rest :) But, even that's worn off now and I'm lucky if I can sleep at night.....last night was the ever favorite game of "musical beds"!!
Stick a loonngg video in, give em some cough medicine and pray!!!!
Here's to feeling better my friend!
P.S. I make a mean chicken soup....can I mail some to you???

It is true! The Mommys never get the time until it is emergency status. I hope you find some before you have to hit the panic button.

Hey Therese!

I'm so sorry you are feeling bad! I just read something from Mother Angelica this weekend about our pain and suffering that we have to endure. And in your case, you have your own pain, and others to deal with because we are the mom. Our job never ends. But consider it a blessing Therese! Mother says this, "Don't fight the suffering that Jesus gives you... He trusts you with pain and suffering. Can you imagine that?" She also says that we should give our suffering so that others can be healed. Pretty neat huh? I know it probably doesn't seem neat right now, but maybe in retrospect it will be??

You are so right, we don't have any time off to be sick. Kids just don't believe we can ever feel bad.

I hope you feel better soon!

Boy, Karen shared an awesome comment. I needed to hear that too! I hope you're feeling better soon - and don't wait to long - if you think you need to get to the DR - GO! And you know I'm speaking from experience.

Keep drinking your hot tea and push your vitamin C!

Nope, it is in the fine print. Did you forget to read it. It says mothers are not allowed to be sick.
Sorry you are down. Words of encouragement, I am in my fourth week. Not as bad this week, but still coughing some.
Side note. I have tried to get into at Work, at play or at home all day. It says it is open only to invited readers. Did you close it? Just wondering.

It's so true, as I too heated up a pot of chicken soup today for my little sickies. It's simply inevitable that I will be sick too in just a matter of hours or days. It's amazing we accomplish anything around here.

I'm so sorry you all are sick, and yes, momma's don't get sick days. I will say, however, that if I'm sick and hubby is off, I do get to be in my room. Alone. It is nice. If it's a workday, I'm on my own. :-) My nephew just got over the rotovirus. It was bad. He had it for about a week. I pray my kids never get it.

Healing blessings to you. I was on bedrest for 2 months with the twins. I didn't realize at the time how nice that was. Every year at my girly check up I ask for about a week of bedrest.
You could have your gall bladder out. That will get you a day or two. But, when the boys start shooting hot wheels out of the leaf blower you have to get up and continue the Mom servalence.
Having them all in school helps. I was able to come home and crash with my sore throat and cough earlier this month.
Hope you are better soon. Healing Blessings for Andy as well.
