Easter Cakes

I finally have uploaded the pictures from my camera! I had to make 2 cakes for Easter. My niece, Lauren asked for a bunny cake at my in-laws, so I had to oblige:

This is a yellow cake with butter cream frosting. The whiskers are pull and peel licorice and the bow tie is made of jelly beans.

For my family's celebration, I made our annual lamb cake.
It is a 7-up pound cake (my Mom's recipe, well, I guess it was my Grandma's
recipe first) with butter cream covered in coconut.
This year's had an addition-edible grass that I found at
Joann's. It was supposed to taste like green apple, but well, it wasn't that flavorful.

My Rose Cake!

So, I had my last class yesterday! Here are my roses! I am really proud of how they turned out! I plan to take level 2 later this summer or early fall. Besides crocheting, this has become my new favorite hobby!

More Cake...

So, we learned roses last week-here is an example.
I also just finished the cake I promised Peter for his 8th birthday tomorrow.

Tomorrow night is my last class, so I will have a final cake to show you!

Happy Mother's Day!

After my cake class last Monday, I offered to bring dessert to my in-laws' house tomorrow for Mother's Day. The cake is yellow, with a chocolate filling. I was able to use all of the techniques I learned in class, and attempt some new ones. We haven't learned leaves yet-that is next Monday when we learn roses. I know it's not perfect, but it was good practice and a lot of fun to make! Happy Mother's Day to all of my friends!

Adventures in Cake, part 2!

I had my cake decorating class Monday night. I absolutely love what I am learning. We focused on writing and stars (which are very helpful with many of the kiddie cakes! Below are two pictures of the cake I decorated on Monday. I am making a cake to take to my in-laws for Mother's Day. I will be sure to post it!

Adventures in Cake

I started my cake decorating class on Monday night. The teacher is really great. She has been decorating cakes since she was a little girl. When I signed up for the class, I was told she was the best Wilton instructor the store had ever had. I think they were right.

Monday was a sit a listen and watch her demonstrate session. In the two hour period, I learned some really great tips-an easier way to level a cake. a way to bake a cake without a dome on it (then you don't need to level it!), and how to ice a cake and make it look like fondant. We also rolled our own parchment decorating bags-a really inexpensive way to decorate!

For next week's class, I need to come in with a torted (layered), frosted cake, and my supplies ready to learn the first decorative steps. I will be bringing home a fully decorated cake. I will be sure to post pictures of my results afterward. I am really excited to be doing this class!!!
